What's New in GanttPad
New features, improvements, and fixes.
Invite your office and your crew onto the same schedule — live, with free viewers for clients and subs. Plus year-at-a-glance zoom and colors by trade.
The biggest change since we launched: GanttPad is no longer a schedule you keep to yourself. Invite the people who need it, decide who gets to change things, and everyone sees the same plan the moment it moves.
Everyone on the Same Schedule
Open Invite & share on any project and send an invitation by email.
- No account needed — anyone you invite gets an email with a sign-up link, and the project is waiting for them the moment they finish signing up. People already using GanttPad see the invitation in their sidebar instead.
- They accept or decline — nobody gets dropped into your project without agreeing to it, and an invitation grants no access at all until it's accepted.
- Remove anyone, any time — revoke access and their open tabs disconnect right then, not the next time they log in.
- Your business data stays yours — collaborators plan with your team roster and rates, but they can't change the roles and people set up on your account.
Editors and Viewers
Two roles, and the difference is simple.
- Editors work on the plan with you — create and edit jobs, drag bars, link tasks, log hours.
- Viewers see the live schedule and can't change a thing. Viewers are free, and there's no limit on them — put the client, the homeowner, the sub and the inspector on the project and it costs nothing.
Only editors use a seat.
What It Costs
Working together comes with the new Team plan — $17.99/month, or $13.99/month billed yearly. It includes three seats (you plus two editors) and unlimited free viewers.
Need more editors? Extra seats are $5.99/month each, added when you invite someone — and the app shows you the exact prorated charge before anything is billed. Remove an editor and the seat frees up and stops being billed.
The people you invite never pay anything. If they're on the Free plan, they can still edit any project you invite them to — only the project owner needs Team. See pricing for the details.
Changes Appear as They Happen
- Live, in every browser — a change made in the office shows up on site immediately. No refresh, no "someone else has this open".
- Two people, one schedule — you can both work the same project at the same time without stepping on each other.
- Undo stays yours — undo reverses your own last change; it never quietly rolls back a teammate's work.
Share Links Are Still Here
Nothing changed about public links — they're in the same dialog, under Public link. The two are for different jobs:
- A share link is a read-only web page for anyone with the URL. Best for "just show them".
- An invitation is personal access for one person, with a role, that you can take back. Best for "work on this with me".
See the Whole Year. Or Just This Week.
The most-asked-for thing on our list, and it's in.
- Three zoom levels — Day for the detail of this week, Month for week-by-week, and Year to fit a full year of work on one screen
- Zoom where your cursor is — Cmd/Ctrl and scroll, or pinch on a trackpad; there's a Zoom control in the toolbar with sliders too
- Fit more rows, or fewer — a slider sets row height, from tight to roomy
- Room before the start — the chart now shows two months ahead of your project start, so permits, orders and prep have somewhere to sit
- Zooming never moves a date — it only changes what you're looking at
Colors by Trade
- Give every role a color in the Team dialog — 14 presets that hold up in both light and dark
- Bars take the color of the role of whoever is on the job first, automatically
- Set a task's color yourself and that always wins
- Nothing is baked in — clear a role's color and every bar that inherited it goes back
Set plumbing blue and tiling green, and the whole schedule reads by trade at a glance.
The Timeline Follows Your First Job
The visible timeline now anchors itself to your earliest task and follows it as you drag things around — no more nudging the project start date by hand. If you'd rather pin it, manual mode is still there in project settings.
Smaller Things
- Search finds things properly — results scroll into view in both the list and the chart, and an optional Show dependencies toggle pulls in what a match depends on
- Duplicate is a real copy — schedule, color, status, assignees, logged hours and incoming links all come across; progress starts back at zero
- Expand/collapse now behaves on part-open trees
- Renames made on the chart show up in the details drawer straight away
- The drag-to-indent indicator lines up exactly with the row that will adopt the task
Thanks to everyone who asked for a way to get their crew onto the schedule — this one is yours.
Portfolio-level rescheduling, holidays that shape your schedule, redesigned team management, and dozens of polish touches.
The biggest release we've shipped to date. New features for portfolio-level planning, a redesigned interface, smarter team management, and dozens of polish touches across the entire product.
Reschedule Across Projects
Replan an entire portfolio in one move.
Pick a project, set a new anchor date, and GanttPad cascades the change across every other project that shares team members — keeping resource conflicts in mind. You see the full before/after preview before committing. If anything looks off, one click undoes the whole operation.
- Cross-project cascade — the schedule for shared assignees flows correctly across all your projects
- Live preview — see the projected timeline diff before applying anything
- One-click undo — every reschedule is captured as an atomic operation; revert at any time
- Resource-aware — capacity and overallocation feed into the new schedule, not just dates
Thanks to Chris for suggesting this one — shipped because you asked.
Holidays — Now First-Class
Holidays are no longer just visual decoration. They actually shape your schedule.
- 10 country presets — Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, United States
- Custom holidays — add your own (company off-days, regional events) on top of the preset
- Auto-rescheduling — task durations automatically skip holidays; a 5-day task that crosses Christmas now ends on the right day
- Visible on the Gantt — holidays appear as soft bands on the chart so you can see them at a glance
- Per-project — each project has its own holiday calendar; teams in different regions stay independent
Another one from Chris — thank you.
Team Management, Reimagined
A complete overhaul of how you work with team members and roles.
Per-Project Capacity & Rates
Your team member might be 100% on Project A but only 40% available on Project B. Now you can model that. Each project can override a team member's:
- Capacity (default availability)
- Hourly rate
The override is just for that project. Their global defaults stay intact, and cost calculations use the project-specific rate automatically.
Overallocation Indicator
A new visual chip on every team member shows their total allocation across all your active projects. Click it to see the breakdown — which project is taking what percentage. Spot overcommitments before they become problems.
Soft Delete
Removing a team member from a project — or from your account entirely — no longer destroys their history. Past task assignments, hours logged, and cost data all stay intact. Reports stay accurate forever. You can restore at any time.
New Team Dialog
The team page is gone, replaced by a modal dialog you can open from anywhere. Toggle between global team and this project's team with one click. Add, edit, archive — all in the same surface.
Project Identity — Icons & Colors
Every project can now have its own identity:
- Curated icon set — pick from a library of icons (wrench, house, rocket, and many more)
- Color tints — sky, emerald, amber, and more
- Visible everywhere — sidebar list, header, and the project switcher all reflect your choices
Find your projects faster, especially if you juggle many at once.
Right-Click Anything
A context menu now lives on every task. Right-click to:
- Change task type (task / milestone / phase)
- Indent / outdent
- Duplicate, copy, paste
- Set color
- Jump to parent
- Delete
It's faster than the toolbar, and it works exactly where your cursor is.
A Calmer, More Focused Interface
We rebuilt the entire dialog layer of the app. Five separate pages have collapsed into modal dialogs — meaning you no longer lose your place in the project view when you change a setting:
- Profile — your account info
- Subscription — Pro plan management & billing
- Integrations — Google Drive
- Support — tickets and help
- Share — public link & export controls
- Project Settings — schedule, holidays, risks, general
Every dialog has a built-in safety net: if you've made changes you haven't saved, closing it confirms first. No more lost edits.
New Sidebar
The sidebar got a refresh — cleaner branding, better hierarchy, and the project list now shows your custom icon and task count next to each project.
Header
- Inline project rename — click the name to edit, no dialog needed
- Pro badge for Pro users
A Better Gantt Chart
Visual overhaul of the chart itself:
- Narrower task bars for higher information density
- Labels on the right of each bar, so the timeline reads more naturally
- Smart overflow — long task titles handle gracefully when bars get small
- Improved milestone rendering — no more visual glitches
- Phase and parent bars redesigned for clarity
- Critical path is faster to compute and the highlighted arrows are more visible
- Holiday bands show the days your team isn't working
- Loading skeleton appears while a project loads, instead of a blank screen
- Much-Much snapier interface on paper saves you a miliseconds of your time, but tons of frustration now leaves.
Task Drawer Refresh
Click any task to open a redesigned details drawer with logical sections (title, schedule, dependencies, assignees, estimation, subtasks).
The big win: edits are staged. You can change multiple things, see the impact, and either save or discard everything at once. No accidental commits.
Sharing & Exporting
The share dialog became a richer multi-tab surface:
- Link tab — generate, expire, regenerate share links
- Visibility tab — choose what's visible on the public page (costs, hours, assignees)
- Export tab — download to PDF or Excel
Public share pages also got a new call-to-action card so visitors can sign up easily.
Pro & Subscriptions
- Smoother upgrade flow — Pro features unlock immediately after checkout
- Returns to where you started — after billing changes, you land back on the page you were on
Polish, Performance & Bug Fixes
- Critical path calculation is significantly faster on large projects
- Calendar double-click weirdness fixed
- Milestone rendering bug fixed
- Toast notifications got a visual refresh
- Dark mode tuned across the entire app
- Theme toggle is now a segmented control (Light / Dark / System)
Thanks for using GanttPad — every one of these changes came from your feedback.
Drag to reorder tasks, and drag a dependency arrow's head to repoint it at a different task.
What's new
Drag-to-reorder tasks
Rearrange your task list directly — just grab and drop:
- Drag handle on hover — hover any row and a six-dot handle appears on its left edge
- Up or down to reposition — drag a task to change its place in the list
- Horizontal to nest — while dragging, move the cursor horizontally to choose whether the task lands as a sibling or nests as a child of the row above
- Clear drop preview — a connector bracket shows exactly where the task will land, and a soft accent on the future-parent row confirms which task will adopt it
- Subtrees move together — dragging a parent carries all its children along, preserving the structure
Behavior
- Dates and dependencies preserved — reordering is purely structural; durations and dependencies stay intact
- Safe drops only — you can't drop a task into one of its own descendants, and the drop indicator clamps to the 6-level nesting limit
- Works with filters and search — tasks outside the visible set keep their relative positions
- Escape to cancel — press Escape to abort a drag in progress
- Optimistic saves — changes apply instantly; on the rare server error the list rolls back and you'll see a toast
Keyboard indent (Tab / Shift-Tab) still works exactly as before — drag is additive, not a replacement.
Re-point dependency arrows
Change an existing dependency without deleting and redrawing it:
- Grab the arrowhead — hover a dependency arrow and drag its head onto a different task to repoint it there
- Same flow as drawing new — snapping, validation, and cycle prevention work exactly like when you create a dependency from scratch
- Drop on empty space to cancel — release away from any task and the arrow snaps back to its original target
Thanks to Chris for suggesting this one — shipped because you asked.
Critical path is finally here — see the tasks that actually drive your deadline, highlighted right on your Gantt chart.
What's new
Critical path (finally!)
It's been the most-requested feature since launch, and it's finally in. GanttPad now calculates the critical path for your project and highlights it directly on the chart:
- Automatic calculation — the longest chain of dependent tasks is computed from your existing dependencies and durations, with no extra setup
- Visual highlighting — critical tasks are emphasized on the Gantt chart so you can see at a glance which slips will push your end date
- Live updates — the critical path recalculates as you edit durations, shift dates, or add and remove dependencies
- Toggle on/off — hide the highlight when you want a clean view, bring it back when you're planning
Thanks to everyone who kept asking for this — we're glad it's finally shipping.
Export your projects directly to Google Drive as Excel files, with free exports for all users.
What's new
Google Drive integration
Export your GanttPad projects straight to Google Drive:
- One-click export — click "Export to Google Drive" from the export menu and your project lands in Drive as an Excel file
- Google Sheets compatible — exported .xlsx files open natively in Google Sheets if you prefer
- Secure connection — connect your Google account from Settings with OAuth, using the minimal
drive.filescope (GanttPad can only touch files it created) - Disconnect anytime — revoke access from GanttPad settings or from your Google account permissions
Free exports for everyone

- Shared views on mobile — shared project links are fully responsive for clients viewing on any device
Estimation and cost tracking, project summary dashboard, and risk management — everything you need to turn your timeline into a proper project estimate.
What's new
Estimation and cost tracking
You can now track hours and costs directly in GanttPad:
- Hours per role — enter estimated hours for each role assigned to a task. Single-assignee tasks automatically lock hours to task duration
- Cost calculation — hours multiplied by role hourly rates, visible in the task detail panel and project summary
- Multiple assignees — when a task has multiple assignees, hours are editable per role to reflect parallel work
Project summary tab
A new Summary tab sits alongside the Gantt view, giving you a high-level overview of your project:
- Overview cards — base hours, base cost, risk-adjusted hours, and total cost at a glance
- Hours by role — table showing hours and costs broken down by each role in the project
- Task breakdown — hierarchical view of all tasks with hours and costs, expandable by phase
- Duration estimate — calculated from your workday hours and work week settings
Risk management
- Risk categories — four built-in categories: Functional, Integration, Communication, and Requirements
- Risk percentages — set a percentage (0-100%) for each risk category in project settings
- Risk-adjusted totals — the summary tab shows how risks affect your overall estimate, with a breakdown of cost impact per category
Project assumptions
- Add free-text assumptions to your project settings (e.g., "Client provides all copy by March 1")
- Assumptions display in the project summary for reference
